Large laundry bags with extra thick “canvas” are made of plain, heavy-duty fabric also known as tarp or sailcloth, woven with thick cotton. Originally created for making boat sails, this material is known for its durability. The same “canvas” material is the one used for oil paintings. It is also used for bags, obi (kimono sash), sumo wrestling attire, race horse bibs and various other items.
